Program Introduction

The Bachelor (BS) of Accounting and Finance program at UMT provides participants with the basic knowledge, skills and tools necessary for a profitable career in finance, accounting and taxation.  The students are encouraged to explore and appreciate diverse career opportunities in public accounting, corporate accounting, and other related areas.

The program provides a thorough academic foundation in the skills and knowledge necessary for entry into the accounting profession. Students of Accounting and Finance receive professional accreditation on a case to case basis. The course is a blend of theory and practice of accounting and finance and offers major exemptions from the examinations of professional accountancy bodies, particularly those of the ICAP on case-to-case basis based on your grades.

The BS Accounting and Finance program consist of four or five-course units per semester. Every week, leading researchers of the respective fields and well qualified accountants give two hours of lectures for each course unit and a one-hour workshop in alternate week. Students are expected to double this in private study. Group work and group or individual presentations are a regular part of your study. The course work consists of essays, multiple choice tests, project reports and presentations, in-class tests and weekly assignments, however the nature and proportion varies across the course unit. Depending on the degree course, in your final year, you can choose to do a research-based dissertation or project.

The program is designed to offer students a general, diversified business background which is important to the financial professional in today’s technology-driven, global business environment.  This degree prepares you for a rewarding career in any sector of the economy. Our graduates can work as a financial accountant, forensic accountant, management accountant, auditor, chief financial officer, financial advisor and tax specialist.
