Islamic civilization is not only spiritual but also meets the highest parameters of rationality; which not only promotes ethical and spiritual standards but also provides a framework to offer genuine solutions to the issues emerging out of interaction of Muslim society with the globalization and industrialization of the West.
The Department of Islamic Thought and Civilization at School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSS&H), UMT, is a reflection of passion and enthusiasm of gifted scholars who wish to introduce Islamic Civilization to the world as a living and dynamic entity. The Department offers a two-year MPhil Islamic Thought and Civilization degree program. The program promotes awareness about the basis and salient features of Islamic Thought and Civilization, opens new vistas of instructions, research and promotes studies in the subject involving conceptual analyses, clarifications and elaborations of Islamic key concepts. Additionally, it provides solution of cultural, educational, scientific and epistemological problems encountered by Muslims in the present age, provides an Islamic response to the intellectual and cultural challenges of the modern world and produces Muslim scholars for inter-faith and Inter-civilization discussions and dialogues.
The MPhil Islamic Thought and Civilization program widens career options including existing opportunities in public and private sector educational institutions. Debate on Islam has increased in print and electronic media, and policy making institutions nationally and internationally. The program prepares scholars to initiate dialogue in Islamic perspective in these organizations. Additionally, research on Islam has increased in both public and private sector universities and research institutions. This program prepares researchers who are able to conduct research in these institutions in Islamic perspective.
