Program Introduction

The Bachelor of Textile Design degree at UMT gives students the start they need to pursue their careers in textile design. It provides them the necessary skills to bring their designs from concept to product and into market. In a fast-paced and continuously changing world, designers need to be more responsive to their environment while cultivating a curious and creative mind.

The program equips students with an in depth knowledge of designing and developing textile sculptures, surface textile design, mixed media textiles and constructed textiles fulfilling the demands of home and fashion design industries. The supportive and creative environment encourage participants to discover the world of materials and design by immersing you in hands-on studio learning practices. Through these engaging studio and interactive sessions, you will be able to develop skills and knowledge related to computer-aided and hand-crafted design along with a deeper understanding of commercial aspects of the industry.

Each year the program's highly anticipated and popular thesis display allows the final year designers to showcase their work to the industries that may employ them. Though this display, students are able to understand the creation and functional application of various textiles and are able to grip the attention of prominent industries.   

The program’s major strength lies in the fact that students learn directly from designers who belong to industry professional community. Our goal at UMT is to hone your skills across a wide spectrum of design from illustration, to print, knit, product and computer-aided design. The program provides you with the foundations, know-how and confidence to work across any area in design.

As a graduate of the Bachelor of Textile Design, you can opt for career as textile designer, trend and forecasting analyst, textile design house owner, textile design brand owner, textile design retailer and textile design manufacturer.
