PhD Data Science

Program Introduction

The PhD in Data Science at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) is an advanced research-oriented program designed to develop scholars and professionals capable of generating new knowledge and developing innovative solutions to complex data-driven problems. The program brings together concepts and methods from data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, big data analytics, data engineering, and computational sciences.

The program provides students with a strong foundation in advanced research methodologies, statistical and computational modelling, machine learning, data analytics, and emerging data-driven technologies. Through supervised doctoral research, students investigate significant problems in areas such as artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, natural language processing, computer vision, deep learning, big data, intelligent decision-making, and applied data science. The program emphasizes original research, scholarly publications, and the development of practical and scalable solutions for real-world challenges.

Students are expected to develop the ability to formulate research problems, critically evaluate existing knowledge, design rigorous experiments, analyze complex datasets, develop novel computational models, and communicate research findings to academic and professional audiences. The program also provides a platform for interdisciplinary research, allowing data science methods to be applied across domains such as business, healthcare, finance, education, engineering, social sciences, and public-sector decision-making.
