Program Introduction

Historically, cotton textiles have been the focus of the textile industry in Pakistan, mainly because of the large amount of cotton produced in the country. In fact, Pakistan currently ranks fourth among world cotton producers and third among world cotton consumers. In addition to cotton, the industry also consumes a considerable amount of man-made fibers and other natural fibers like wool, silk, and linen.

The textile industry of Pakistan mainly consists of man-made fibers producing plants, short- and long- staple spinning mills, weaving mills, knitting units, dyeing and printing mills, garments and home textiles manufacturing units, gloves, and socks makingunits, etc. Recently, the industry has also started manufacturing a few products of technical textiles; a new sub-sector of textile industry with promising growth worldwide. The textile industry, being the largest industrial sector, plays a vital role in the economic prosperity of Pakistan.
BS Textile Engineering has evolved over the years into a highly competitive program not only in Pakistan but also in the whole South Asian region. The main focus is on imparting such knowledge and skills to the participants which are necessary for successful careers in the textile industry as well as in research organizations. Availability of qualified faculty along with well-equipped laboratories covering all subjects of textile and apparel manufacturing ensure that all graduates will be capable of delivering in all situations evolving out of everyday work in textile mills and research organizations.
